Kenya has always been a good destination for tourists from all over the world. Its colorful tribal culture, coral reefs, beaches, wildlife, beautiful mountains and deserts are among the major attractions of this country. In fact, Kenya as a country represents Africa in a big way. Vacationers have always found a million reasons to tour Kenya each year. Its beauty starts from the stunning landscapes that start from the highest peak of Mount Kenya to Kakamega’s rainforests, rolling grasslands in the Maasai Mara and finally the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean. The beautiful features in the Rift valley, wild animals such as the leopards, elephants, lions and wildebeest makes Kenya a perfect tour destination for holiday makers from all over the world.

To prove that Kenya has become a beacon of tourism in Africa, the tourism board will be hosting the World Travel Awards (WTA) this year. These awards are also known as the Travel industry Oscars. These nominations are set to recognize excellence in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries. The aim of the awards is to encourage players in these industries to uphold their constant zeal and improvement in the products and service delivery. Despite the challenges that tourism industry in Kenya has faced, the tourism board has always done its best to market this country and a tourists’ destination in Africa.

As a host of these awards, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) shows that it is the leading tourism board in Africa. Early this year in February, the board was also recognized in England as the leading African tourism board during the Africa Safari Awards. According to the Managing Director of the KTB, World Travel Awards could never have come to Kenya at a better time. Currently, Kenya is still celebrating the new government that followed peaceful and successful general elections. This beautiful country also has a new constitution and system of governance that encompasses devolution. All these developments have raised the profile of this country as a safe tour destination.

The decision by the WTA to choose Kenya as a host for the ceremony is an indication that the world has confidence in this country. The ceremonies serve to endorse Kenya as a preferred tour destination in Africa. According to Graham E. Cooke who is the Founder and President of the awards, choice of the host of the ceremonies is very important as it determines the success of the events. Kenya is a nation that has all ingredients that a country needs to host an African ceremony. He describes this country as a progressive nation that is vibrant, warm and brimming with creativity and enthusiasm. He notes that tourism is a very important sector of the Kenyan economy creating sustainable jobs and contributing 12% of the overall GDP. He further observes that with the current stability in Kenya, the country is set for a bright future.

Currently, entries are open for various categories in Africa, Europe, South, North and Central America, Caribbean Australia and Asia. Anyone interested can visit the World Travel Awards website for more information regarding entry forms and nominations deadlines.
